About

I’m an award-winning musician, developer, and educator with over 20 years of experience.
Where I Come From
Since I was two years old I’ve been inexplicably drawn to music – one of my earliest memories is dressing up as Steven Tyler and figuring out how to hook an SM58 to an amplifier. Fast forward twenty something years and I’ve made it my life mission to immerse myself in every aspect of music, from the recording process to the code that powers the software we use to make it.
When I was 16, I graduated high school early to pursue recording full-time at a local college in my hometown of Minneapolis – two years later, I was completely hooked. By the time I was 21, I’d completed my master’s degree in music production from Berklee College of Music, bouncing between three colleges in my ever-expanding pursuit of knowledge.
Once I discovered my passion for teaching in my second to last semester, I made a last-minute pivot to education. Two months after my graduation I was teaching full-time at Purdue Fort Wayne, where I’ve been cultivating the next generation of producers and musicians ever since.
Development
The question I get asked most by peers and clients alike is “how does all of your music experience tie into your passion as a developer?” – truth is, it’s pretty simple. To me, music production and recording ticks all the same boxes as writing code – it’s inherently creative, technical, and complex, but the work you do should ultimately serve the end product, whether that’s a website or a track on Spotify.
I’ve been honing my skills as a programmer since I was 8, when my mother (perhaps knowingly) sent me down a life-long path by introducing me to JavaScript. Since then, I’ve spent time in countless different environments ranging from front-end web development in ASP.NET and Node.js to real-time algorithmic processing with C++ and recurrent neural networks. I pride myself on my technical range and my ability to understand the big picture of whatever application I’m working on.
